What type of lessons are available?

Made to Order Equestrian offers lessons in Hunt-seat Equitation, Jumping, Natural Horsemanship, as well as Dressage and basic Western riding. Mary Berlauk specializes in developing youth and adult riders from beginners through advanced levels and works with riders interested in pleasure riding, local showing, and A-Circuit showing.

Where is Made to Order Equestrian located?

Mary Berlauk provides riding lessons and horse training at your location, within a 25 mile radius of her home-base in Holly Springs, North Carolina.  Don't own a horse or pony of your own?  That's ok!  Made to Order Equestrian offers lessons on school horses.


How much do lessons cost?

Beginner Riding Lessons are $55 for 1 hour on a school (lesson) horse.  Intermediate and Advanced Riding Lesson are $40 for those who own or lease their own horse or $50 for those riding a school horse.  Intermediate and Advanced Lessons are 45 minutes and, if applicable, include 10 miles of FREE travel to your location. Additional travel is provided at $2.00 per mile, one way. Ring fees or other charges imposed by the location of your lesson/training session are in addition to the lesson price.  Monthly Lesson and Training Packages are also available, which provide great SAVINGS and allow you to lock in your lesson times!  For more information please review our lesson and training package options by visiting the "Services" page or selecting the "Rate Schedule" from the blue column to the right.  Made to Order Equestrian strives to make riding and enjoying horses affordable for everyone. What equipment or apparel do I need in order to ride?

You will need to wear riding pants or jeans (snug fitting in the lower leg is preferable), boots with a low heel, and a helmet. Other optional equipment/apparel include: gloves, chaps, riding crop or dressage whip. All participants must wear a helmet while mounted. Some equipment may be available to borrow until you are able to obtain your own items. Please inquire if you have additional questions about what to wear and bring to your lesson.


My horse needs training, what kind of training does Made to Order Equestrian offer?

Mary Berlauk utilizes natural horsemanship methods combined with traditional techniques to help you and your horse conquer just about any goal! She provides training such as gentling wild horses, starting horses under-saddle, fixing problem areas, and polishing horses for sale or show. Also, Mary Berlauk provides trainingfor trail riding, hunters, jumping, or simply making your horse amateur or kid friendly, and so much more! Mary Berlauk's twenty years of experience with all types of horses, from ponies to off the track Thoroughbreds to wild Mustangs and Warmblood youngsters, has given her unique insight and expertise. Mary Berlauk specializes in identifying each horse’s learning style and motivators, as well as developing the horse completely by filling any holes in his foundation and always teaching the horse through steps that the horse can understand, process, and succeed in. What if I have to reschedule, cancel, or there is bad weather?

We greatly appreciate 24 hours notice, if you (or your horse) are unable to attend your scheduled lesson or training session. Thank you for your cooperation!


How do I submit a Rescheduling Request or Cancellation Request?

For a lesson or training session with less than 48 hours notice, contact MTOE via phone call or voicemail at (919) 480-6705. For a lesson or training session with greater than 48 hours notice, please contact MTOE via phone call, voicemail, or email at  If you are emailing your rescheduling or cancellation request, please include the date, day of the week, and time of your lesson or training session.  Also, to help with the rescheduling process, please include several possible timeframes that will work for you for your make-up lesson or training session.  PLEASE NOTE – Rescheduling Requests and Cancellations will NOT be accepted via TEXT Message.


How long do I have to make-up a package lesson or training session? 

If 24 hours notice is provided, then the lesson/session can be rescheduled within 7 days. (The 7 day rescheduling period may extend past the one calendar month of the Package, but not more than 7 days past the missed lesson/session date.) If a suitable time is not available within 7 days of the cancelled lesson/training session, then the lesson/session and the lesson/session fee are forfeited.

What if bad weather is projected for my lesson time? 

If you suspect weather or poor footing will impact your lesson or training session, please contact Made to Order Equestrian as early as possible (minimum of 24 hours in advance). Package lessons or package training sessions cancelled due to bad weather must be utilized within 7 days. MTOE will make every effort to reschedule the missed lesson or training session within the 7 day time period. If a rescheduled lesson/session cannot be completed within 7 days, then the lesson or training session and the lesson/session fee are forfeited. (The rescheduling period may extend a maximum of 7 days past the end of the calendar month.) Lessons and training sessions may not be cancelled for bad weather if a suitable indoor or covered arena is available and usable. No Refunds.


What if my horse is lame for my lesson or training session?


If your horse is lame or otherwise unable to perform at the time of your individually purchased lesson or training session, then half of the lesson/training fee is owed along with all of the travel fee (if applicable). If your horse is lame or otherwise unable to perform for a package lesson or package training session, you may use your lesson/session on another horse, providing there is no change to the lesson/session date and time. (Utilizing a substitute horse may incur a horse use fee, please inquire.)
